AQUA WOLVES
Wolves setting records at Metros
Reported by Bill Babcock
The St. Paul's AquaWolves continued their quest for faster times as they broke two team records on the way to finishing
seventh in the Metro New Orleans High School Swim League Championships held Friday, November 4 and Saturday November 5 at the UNO Lakefront Arena Pool.
The 200 medley relay of Will Warwick, Robert Klazynski and co-captains Connor Cox and James Robinson smashed the team record in
finals by streaking to a 1:44.92 clocking and jumping from sixth seed to fourth place.
Individually, Klazynski, a junior, splashed in at 57.21 to shatter Colin Babcock's record in the 100 fly. Klazynski also won the
consolation finals in the 200 freestyle. Robinson was the team's individual high point scorer with dual seventh place finishes in the 50 and 100
freestyles. Cox also won the consolation finals in the 100 breaststroke, qualifying for state meet with a 1:08.68 and notched a tenth place in the
200 individual medley. Sophomore sensation Warwick broke the 1:00.00 barrier in the 100 backstroke touching the pad at 59.77 in tenth place.
Also scoring for the Wolves were: Senior Tom Harper, 13th in the 100 fly and 14th in the 500 freestyle, Junior Kevin Nelson - 15th in the 50
freestyle and Senior Nathan Grotte dropped more time from his stellar Central District performances to stop the clock at 1:13.50 to score 14th in the 100
breaststroke.
It has been said that at St. Paul's, the strength of the Wolf is in the Pack. Nowhere was that more evident than in the team's relays. Where
we had one individual score in the Top 8, every St. Paul's relay finished sixth place or higher. In addition to our record breaking medley, our 200 freestyle
relay moved up one place from prelims to stick a sixth place. Cox, Harper, Nelson and Freshman Jacob Elliott recorded a season's best 1:37.75 to move up. In
the always dramatic 400 freestyle relay, Harper, Warwick, Klazynski and Robinson also moved up one place to sixth with another season's best time of 3:29.89.
When just the relay places were scored out, the AquaWolves were the fourth best relay scoring team in the meet! This is a true testament to the team's
character and ability to come together and bring the very best out of each other when relays are on the line.
